Hilit Mechaber, MD
Dr. Hilit Mechaber is Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSM). She graduated from the UM BS/MD Honors Program in Medicine and completed her residency in Primary Care Internal Medicine at the George Washington University. Her professional niche is in medical student career development, coaching, and support. In her current decanal role, she creates and oversees programs and resources available for all areas of medical student support, advancement, and career guidance. She has dedicated over two decades to her work as a general internist, clinician educator and medical school administrator caring for patients while also supporting and shaping the professional development of several thousand medical students and residents. Dr. Mechaber became a certified life coach and teaches physicians and trainees how to harness their best versions of themselves to achieve all that is possible. She joined the grant leadership team to study and identify the impact of coaching on the UME community of learners.
Dr. Mechaber is a national leader in student affairs with a passion and commitment to medical student well-being. She has broad national involvement as she currently serves as the Previous Past Chair of the National Group on Student Affairs (GSA). Dr. Mechaber has also been a student affairs contributor to the ERAS and Careers in Medicine National Advisory Boards. She works to support women in medicine locally and collaboratively with the Office of Belonging and Inclusive Excellence as a medical school advisor of AMWA and also served as a longstanding faculty institutional representative to the AAMC Group on Women in Medicine and Science.
Dr. Mechaber values her roles as the proud mother of two daughters and wife of a fellow physician educator/executive. She loves spending time with her labrador, catching sunsets, cheering at college football games, and singing Karaoke.
